The Samuel Bryan Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR)  partnered with the Hornet Park Community Center and several other businesses to host the 2nd Veteran’s Appreciation Luncheon on March 25, 2023, at the Hornet Park Community Center.

There were approximately 35 Veteran’s representing all branches of the military in attendance.  These Veterans served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam and many came with their families.

The two World War II Veterans in attendance, Robert Pedigo and Bill Cerello were presented with commemorative pins, and their own cake, and received a round of applause from all in attendance.

The Beech Grove High School JROTC presented the colors as the attendees said the pledge of allegiance and sang the national anthem. Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley presented a Proclamation regarding Vietnam Veterans and then lunch was served.

The day was made possible by the combined efforts of the Hornet Park Community Center, Samuel Bryan Chapter, NSDAR, HVAF of Indiana, American Legion 276 Ladies Auxiliary, the Beech Grove High School JROTC, Whalen’s Heroes Inc, and Changing Footprints.  Additionally, the Beech Grove Lions Club provided some appreciation goodie bags, and Chic Fil A donated gift cards. Mr. Phil Kaster provided Bibles, and Suzanne Smock from SBC represented the Beech Grove Drug-Free Coalition.  The food buffet was provided and prepared by Hornet Park Community Center.

In the words of Mrs. Spear, the wife of a Navy veteran, “The event was wonderful and it’s so great that all the veterans were honored and thanked for their service!”
