Patriots on the Trail & Liberty Tree Dedication

On a sunny and breezy June morning, the Samuel Bryan Chapter (SBC), National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, dedicated a Liberty Tree and America 250 marker in Sarah T. Bolton Park, Beech Grove, Indiana. In addition to the Liberty Tree, six new Revolutionary War patriot trail markers that have been installed along the Beech Grove Franciscan Trail were unveiled for all to view. 

 

Forty-five DAR, SAR members, and guests participated in this historic event for the chapter and the City of Beech Grove.  SBC Regent Patricia Moy welcomed all honored guests that included: Charlotte Blair, Honorary Indiana DAR State Regent and America 250 State Chair; JoAn Nichols, Honorary Indiana DAR State Regent; Peggy Bostic, Indiana DAR State Chaplain; Catherine Reedy, Indiana DAR State Corresponding Secretary; Lisa Winship, Central District Director; Jacob Vink, President, Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution; Mark Kreps, State Historian, Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution; Anthony Green, 1st Vice Regent, Indiana Society, Children of the American Revolution; Dennis Buckley, Honorable Mayor of the City of Beech Grove; and Julie McGuire, Indiana State Representative of the 93rd District. 

 

In addition, Honorable Mayor, Dennis Buckley was awarded a National DAR Community Service Award.  Molly Sanders, Chapter Vice Regent lead the Patriot Trail Marker dedication. Megan Lauman led the Liberty Tree and Memorial Marker unveiling. Peggy Bostic, Indiana DAR State Chaplain, and Patricia Moy, Samuel Bryan Chapter Regent, unveiled the marker.  

 

Guests placing wreaths were: Jackie Murowski, Jonathan Jennings Chapter, Indianapolis; Anthony Green, Indiana Society Children of the American Revolution; Charlotte Blair, Indiana DAR America 250 Committee; Sharon Manifold & Melanie Snow, Samuel Bryan Chapter; Jacob Vink and Mark Kreps, Indiana Society Sons of the American Revolution. Officer Wallace Christy from the Beech Grove Police Department presented TAPS. 

 

The reception committee, led by Paula Kaster, decorated the park shelter in tan, white and red colors and distributed filigree fans.  Cake, punch, and water were served as the light refreshments. Guests were also given favors of small candles with the America 250 tag and the name of a chapter patriot to take home with them. To also commemorate our year-long commemorative event, the 60th Anniversary of the Indiana Poem, delicate bookmarks with the poem printed were given to each guest.

DAR’s Samuel Bryan Chapter Recognizes Good Citizens

Beech Grove, Indiana – The Samuel Bryan Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) have the pleasure of recognizing the winner of our chapter Good Citizen Award.  

The DAR Good Citizens program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the sparkling qualities of good citizenship in our students. The program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited and in good standing with their state board of education. Students are not required to be United States citizens.

DAR’s Samuel Bryan Chapter and Hornet Park Community Center Recognizes Local Veterans

The Samuel Bryan Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, along with Hornet Park Community Center in Beech Grove held its third annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Saturday afternoon. This free luncheon for all local veterans began at 11am with Chapter Regent Patricia Moy welcoming all in attendance, reminding them that this event was to celebrate their courage, sacrifices, and to sincerely thank them for their service.
