Naturalization Ceremony – Indiana War Memorial – August 2023

The Samuel Bryan Chapter was represented by Kim S and Cathy S at the Naturalization Ceremony, held at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis on August 10th, 2023.

96 new citizens were sworn in from over 30 countries and ranged from ages 18-55 years of age. Inquiries from the Judge asked the group in front of him how long it took to gain their citizenship and of the responses, the longest was 29 years and the shortest was four months. The youngest new citizen, 18 years of age, led the room in their first Pledge of Allegiance.

Other representatives included in this patriotic ceremony were from Indiana Senator Todd Young, Indiana Congresswoman Victoria Sparks, and Governor Eric Holcomb’s office.

The chapter members handed out 100 American flags, four of which went to the new citizens’ children who walked across the stage with their parents.  96 Gift bags to carry the new citizen’s certificates and documents were prepared for them that held a flag stand for their first flag as an American citizen, our commemorative event bookmark of the 60th anniversary of the Indiana State Poem by Arthur Franklin Mapes, a welcome card from the Samuel Bryan Chapter, and copies of the flag code. The Samuel Bryan Chapter NSDAR wishes our newest citizens well and congratulates them on their new lives in the United States of America.

As Kim and Cathy shook their hands and gave big smiles and congratulations on a job well done, Cathy S. commiserated on how difficult this was to accomplish and we were proud of them all for sticking it out!

Thank you for allowing us to serve!

Kim S and Cathy S
